Viervlek (Libellula quadrimaculata)

These photos are from May 20, 2013
Walking in the Kuinderbos produced this beautiful four spot (Libellula quadrimaculata) on.

feature
40-48 mm. Dragonflies with a fairly broad abdomen that tapers and ends in a point. Drawn males and females similar. Rear wing with a dark spot in the base. The veins in the dark spots are bright yellow. Halfway through the leading edges of the wings is a dark spot, which does not occur in other species of dragonfly. Some specimens from these spots, and the pterostigma, one extra dark smudge in the wings (praenubila form). Abdomen in young animals predominantly orange with contrasting black dot. The segment edges yellow hems. Older animals are dark brown with a gray tinge, the black point is therefore not contrast more. In the abdomen are often striking air bubbles visible. Brown eyes. Face cream, sometimes almost white.
