At last, I found one at rest.....but.....

Aeshna grandis

Brown Hawker

Whilst out on my local patch this morning, I at last found a Dragonfly that i have been trying all year to get images of, that is, the Brown Hawker,.....but I had the wrong lens with me! No macro lens just my 400mm prime lens, which will only close focus at 3.5 meters....Aaaaaaagh!  I did however get some sort of photo's, but not what I what I could of achieved had I brought my Macro lens out!

  1. Excellent! Very beautiful series "in spite of" the 400 mm, we wait for the same subject with a macro lens! Extra the blue spots on the base of wings! Greetings, M.

    1. I find these Brown Hawkers the most difficult to photograph Morikan, they rarely settle!

  2. Oh my, Warren!!
I wouldn't have imagined that pictures could come out so well from a 400mm lens!
    Quite an achievement!
And what a dragon, one I still haven't seen yet...
    Fantastic, thanks for sharing!

I often see this species, but rarely get to find them at rest.

  3. Superbe! Tu n'as pas à avoir de regrets car qui te dit qu'elle t'aurait laissé approcher et faire une photo si tu avais eu un 100mm? Quelle magnifique libellule avec ses touches de bleu!
