Aeshna cyanea
While I wait for the kingfishers, I sometimes see Blue hawker males patrolling along the banks of the lake to find a female laying her eggs in order to kidnap her and mate with her.
I was lucky to see this mating wheel perch in the reeds, as the kingfisher was elsewhere for some time. I grabbed my camera and rushed to shoot it... Luckily the dragonflies where well exposed:
Sympetrum striolatum
And a Common darter patrolling too:
Wonderful images of the Southern Hawkers (as we call them here), Carine. Not seen one for a little while now so I think they might have finished for the season in these parts. Now I have another thing to look forward to next year! With my very best wishes. Take good care - - - Richard

SupprimerI thought this blog was dwindling away slowly, but let's try to keep going.
I would very much appreciate your dragon posts here ;-)
Sept is really the Southern hawker month here in France and I would think it is quite the same the UK.
I am flying off to Kenya very early on monday!
All the best, keep well and enjoy your weekend :)
